Dog Vegas Small/Medium Grade 3-5 combined Final 2011
The entertainment for the night was ready to start, the grade 3-5 small/medium final.
With Kevin Lampitt judging and the Dog Vegas team ready to keep the ring flowing, the crowd ready to keep the drinks flowing, the handlers were ready to start.
The smalls were drawn to run first, so first on the line was Karen Miaskowski with Spirit Of Surprise who started the final with 10f. The first clear round was 4th to run Selena Bray with Shanandi One & Only completing a stunning round in a very fast time of 36.609. This was definitely a round to put pressure on the other finalists. With an array of steadier clears, 5 and 10 faults rounds and a couple of eliminations, it was time for the mediums to rise to the challenge that Selena had set. The first medium to go clear was Leah Bray (keeping it in the family) but with a slower time of 50.781. After a couple of 5 fault rounds it was Linda Cummings on the line with her stunning Urban Myth No Worries – if this combination goes clear, then there are few that can beat them on time. Well they did manage to go clear and with a cracking time of 33.762, which did prove to be unbeatable.
Well done to Linda on winning the final and well done to all of the finalists for qualifying for this years’ final.

Dog Vegas Large Grade 3-5 combined Final 2011
With all the rings finished for the day, it was time for the final to begin.
With Kevin Lampitt judging and the Dog Vegas team ready to keep the ring flowing, the handlers were ready to start the 2011 final.
First on the line was Heidi Windheuser with the first of two runs with Rajjinka High Flyer, a 3 year old Border Collie, but they were unfortunately eliminated, and Heidi picked up 5 faults with her second dog, a 6 year old Kelpie, Morgans Red Kite.
Second on the line was 17 year old Martin Read with Went With a Flash and this dog lived up to his name with a fantastic clear round in a time of 26.848 – this really set the standard from the start as there wasn’t much room to improve on this round. After Jo Hyslop’s 5 faults, Bob Sharpe was 4 th to run and managed a clear round in a respectable time of 29.556 but it was almost 3 seconds behind Martins time. We then had to wait until the 11 th combination to run for the first challenge to Martins run – it was Amanda Ellerton with 3 year old Border Collie, Dragondaze Into Gear – they managed to put in a brilliant performance to shave nearly 2/10 th of a second of Martin’s time with a clear round in a time of 26.664 – was this going to be the winning round? Amanda has had a brilliant year with this dog that has just moved up to grade 6, so she was going to take some beating. Jess Cothay with her Border Collie, Fuzzy Logic took their turn to try and take the leading time, but they weren’t quite fast enough, they ended up with a clear round in 27.09 – great effort, but not quite there. The only other clear that was close, running 25 th was Naomi Hall with Hainan’s Racy Red Slinky Minx, they had a clear round in 28.606 which would eventually take the 4 th place rosette home, pretty good as it is only Naomi’s second year competing, one to watch for the future I think.
So it was Amanda Ellerton’s night, a bottle of bubbly or two would be drunk no doubt.
Well done to all of the finalists for qualifying for the final and a special well done to Amanda Ellerton for winning the top prize.
